Daniel, his mom and I went camping in the Sand Isabel National e Forest. The drive up there was beautiful. Pine and aspen tress lined the curvy roads. We were able to find a campsite in a campground called "La Vista." The blue skies and clouds were so vibrant; along with the fresh mountain air. The light rays shining through the trees as we sit on the bench made the roots glisten. After camp was setup we made food for the night, Thankfully Daniel had made chili the night prior. So we we reset with chili and bread. The next morning we awoke to blue birds chirping in nearby trees. We had spilt some corn as well the night before so them and chipmunks were having a little snack. Daniel and I went on a hike down towards some creeks, We found a couple bridges and couple mushrooms. I took photos and videos of the water falling over mossy rocks. I got a few photos of deer crossing our campsite and the other creatures that were among us. The best feeling was walking down towards the water and trails, and being surrounded by all those tall trees. Nice day, not too hot nor windy. It did rain a few times, but not too bad to hurt us. We were quite a ways way into our first walk with his mom towards the water, and we took a different road. We were already halfway across the lake when it started to sprinkle on us. But as I turned around the fog setting behind the mountains, and lake was so pretty! As we trekked on, the rain did get a little heavy. We decided to stop under some trees for some shade; Daniel and I continued back about 2 or3 miles back to the campsite to get the car to return and pick his mom up. That was the longest walk I think I've ever been on, though it was cold and piss pouring rain we still had a good laugh about everything. We were able to dry our things later on in the evening, and went to town to pick up more firewood.
By the time we got back the rain had let up and we decided to make dinner. I believe I ended up making the foil packets full of bouillon sausage, zucchini, and shrimp, with lots and lots of butter and seasoning! That definitely hit the spot after a long day of being in the rain. We had brought some moonshine, but only drank about couple shots and thought we'd hit the hay. This last day we didn't have too much planned, but just to be lazy and maybe drive around a bit to sight see. Which we did after his mom made breakfast for us. She made biscuits and gravy on her portable stovetop. It was so good!
Once we got packed up and was on our way, his mom had a place to show us that she had went to prior camping with her niece. It was quite a ways farther up the mountain, which I was fine with. We were going to go mushroom hunting as well. The blue skies that emerged from behind trees as we drove up the curvy waves of dirt was unimaginable. The first couple of stops that we did, we found a few funny looking orange mushrooms, white fluffy ones, and even itty bitty tiny ones. Tinier than my pinky. The higher you go the more you'll see and, boy did we explore out into the woods. If I was able, I probably would get lost in them just walking continuously finding new things. I had a Ziploc bag with me that I put the mushrooms in to later on research them and see what I had found. Though if you are smart, don't bring Ziploc. Either use a basket or a mesh bag.
